IS YOURS THE PITCH TO WIN?
Football enthusiasts across the country are being encouraged to enter a fantastic competition, which could win them a free makeover of their football pitch.
If a pitch you know is in need of improvement but the team doesn’t have the spare cash or resources then this national competition could be just up your street.
‘Pitch To Win’ is organized by leading lawnmower petrol engine manufacturer Briggs & Stratton and is open to anyone involved with a non-professional under 18’s football club in England and will be run in conjunction with www.weekendwonders.co.uk, which will be regularly updated with the latest news of the competition.
The competition kicks off this month with a £4,000 pitch makeover, a ride-on lawnmower worth £3,000 and a cheque for £1,000 all up for grabs. The two runners up will bag themselves cash prizes of £1,000 and £500 for team expenses.
Speaking about the competition, Ian Small, business development manager for Briggs & Stratton, said: “We have launched it because we wanted to give something back to the community. Everyone knows how much sport plays an important part in young people’s lives today. It combines healthy competition, fun and fitness.
“We want to highlight just how important football pitches are within the local community - a great one is not all about the hard work that goes into maintaining it but also about football teams enjoying the green space.”
Gary Parkinson, Editor, of FourFourTwo.com, a sister website to Weekend Wonders said: “We’ll all have our own nominations and the competition will certainly be fierce. We can’t improve the weather- although we Brits have long been stoical about that – but it’s nice to see that someone’s making an effort to improve the quality of the surface we play on. The better the surface, the better the quality of the games, Well that’s the theory anyway!”

Members of the public wanting to enter the competition will be required to submit an entry form with images detailing why their nominated pitch deserves to win.
A panel of judges, including groundsmen from two professional football clubs, will choose the winning pitches.
